What is groupage?

Groupage is a method of transport that treats goods as individual shipments rather than loaded in containers. This category of cargo is non-contained cargo and refers to oversized and overweight single items such as construction equipment, oil and gas machinery, pipelines, ships, turbine blades, ship propellers, generators, large engines and steel parts.

How to carry out groupage?

Groupage is usually transported in bags, boxes, crates or drums, or by securing the cargo on pallets or skids. Special bulk carriers are equipped with heavy duty cranes that are able to handle heavy cargo more safely and quickly than quay cranes, making the loading and unloading process faster and more efficient.
