FCL is the abbreviation of Full Container Load. One full case capacity, only available to one customer. LCL stands for Less than Container Load, which means less than the container capacity. For LCL shipments, shipping charges are calculated based on the weight or volume of the shipment, whichever is greater - "volumetric weight" to be precise. For very small shipments, eg containing only one small item, a minimum charge applies.
For FCL shipments, the rate per container is billed regardless of the weight and volume of the shipment - of course, the shipment cannot exceed the maximum capacity of the container.
